September is here and that means one thing: TIFF is back! This highly revered international film festival sees some of the world’s biggest celebrities flock to Toronto as select movies and documentaries are screened from all over the world. But as much as it’s all about the films, it’s also about the red carpets, the glamourous parties and, of course, what everyone is wearing.
If you’re still stuck in the mindset that Canadian fashion is all about cozy sweatpants and plaid shirts, you’re wrong, friends. The Canadian fashion industry is chock-full of incredible talent, and there’s even plenty to choose from when it comes to evening wear that’s ready for the red carpet.

Toronto’s own Greta Constantine is headed by designers Kirk Pickersgill and Stephen Wong who strive to empower women provide modern sensibility for truly effortless dressing. No stranger to A-list clientele, their designs have been seen on celebs like Angelina Jolie, Victoria Beckham, Iman and our fave Gigi Gorgeous to name a few. Their FW17 collection gives us major renaissance vibes with beautiful jacquard structuring and rich jewel tone hues and we can’t wait to see who dons Greta during TIFF!
Inspired by romantic glamour and elegance, Toronto based NARCES is known for their exquisite and intricately embellished designs with creative director Nikki Wirthensohn Yassemi bringing her international background to her aesthetic. NARCES offers haute couture designs with a modern chic approach with their signature use of texture, silhouette and style!
Celeb and influencer fave, Mikhael Kale is known for his conceptual approach to fashion design with attention to detail, craftsmanship and tailoring. Since launching his line in 2007, Kale has been featured in WWD, iD Magazine to name a few and has even worked with Beyonce (NBD!), Gigi Hadid and Sky Ferreira, not to mention he won the CAFA Award for Womenswear Designer of The Year 2015!
A personal fave of Sophie Grégoire Trudeau, season 1 runner-up of Project Runway Canada AND a TFW regular since 2007, Romanian-born Lucian Matis is no fashion newbie. Lucian has perfected his intricate designs that have won him numerous accolades like Best Collection at Toronto Fashion Week by Fashion Magazine!
Maram, the Paris-educated, Montreal-based designer Maram Aboul Enein hails from Egypt and brings a rare approach to each piece and collection with her fusion of opulent furs, leather quilting, embroidery and intricate construction. With an out-of-the-box design process, Maram’s inspirations lie in the unknown, the forbidden and the abandoned and she is constantly delving into mythical worlds found in theoretical research that bring her vision to life!
Constantly inspired by the femininity that women exude, CARAS aims to translate that femininity into something that any woman can wear and express at her best. Born in Greece and educated in Australia, Stephen Caras has worked with fashion houses such as Guy Laroche and Hermés while son and now co-designer Kyriako Caras designs with a sense of artistic expression through luxurious and bold shapes. Together, their vision of feminine simplicity is out of this world and never fails to leave us gasping for air!
Known as the ‘King of Glamour’, Wayne Clark is best recognized for his glamorous and dramatic evening gowns and well-tailored women’s sportswear. His designs have attracted worldwide attention and have been worn by such renown celebrities as Jane Fonda, Cindy Crawford, Rihanna!
Many sisters dream of starting their own fashion line but these badass sisters did it for real. Chloé and Parris Gordon of Beaufille have been taking the fashion world by storm with their SS17 collection consisting of signature flares, belted jackets and cool silver jewelry that appear refreshed with new materials like plaid, pleating and denim and are adorned with their statement ruffles!
Alberta born and Toronto-based Sid Neigum is an experimentalist who aims to develop new silhouettes, shapes, ideas and feelings through fashion design and other mediums. Neigum is known for his dark aesthetic that’s inspired by music, street fashion, architecture and avant garde club culture and we love seeing his vision come to life on runways and no doubt, on the TIFF red carpets!
Montreal-based UNTTLD is a luxury line that reflects a sense of masculine femininity and timeless elegance, focusing on fine fabrics and the perfect fit and iconic inspirations and part of UNTTLD’s mission is to support high-end fashion manufacturing Canada. We love the draping and effortless glamour in their SS17 collection and can’t wait to see who they might dress on the red carpet!
