There’s nothing that makes me more excited to throw my dreary black tights into the trash than waking up to a sunny day when warmer months finally find their way to Canada. Seriously, there’s just something about being able to prance out of the house in bare legs that makes me want to scream “FREEDOM!!” I guess, to me, getting dressed in the spring and summer is just so much easier, and faster, which really comes in handy when you’re someone who has little time to get dressed, or simply doesn’t want to spend that much time getting dressed. Personally, I fall into both categories. So how do I get dressed in a hurry while still trying to look chic? Here are 6 of my favourite style essentials for an easy uniform during spring and summer:
Fresh Hair Blowouts
Ah, the blowout. I’ve written about it before, and I’m sure I’ll write about it again. To be honest, it doesn’t really matter what I’m wearing when I’ve got a fresh blowout, because when my hair is looking and feeling great, I do too. I’d say a blowout is one of my style essentials all year round, but especially in the spring to feel just as fresh and happy as the great weather makes me feel.
Lighter, Brighter Makeup
There’s no question that a classic red lip is my signature beauty statement, but this spring I’ve decided to try and venture away from such a bold look in favour of something lighter and brighter. Personally I’ve always had trouble pulling off a nude lip (I think it makes my face look dead), so have opted for a light blush pink instead that compliments my skin. When accompanied with that “no makeup makeup look”, I think you can *almost* get away with convincing people that you really just woke up like this.
Fun, Easy Dresses
I have a lot of everything in my closet(s), but, one thing I definitely have the most of is dresses. Dresses, dresses, dresses! Seriously, I can’t get enough. I went through a lot of my life never wearing dresses, up until I had that eureka moment when I realized they made getting dressed so much simpler. All you have to do is throw it over your head and you’re good to go? AMAZING. Since then, they’ve been a go-to style staple for me, and I always like to freshen up my spring wardrobe with a few new dresses that I know will get tons of wear straight through until fall, whether I wear them with a biker jacket in the city or sandals on the beach.
Legs, Legs, Legs
Here in Toronto there’s a pretty small window of time when you can truly get your gams out without getting weird looks from passers-by. Although I have been known to show some leg even when there’s still snow on the ground, you can imagine my enthusiasm for rocking short hems when it’s warm out. Now, I by no means have the longest, thinnest or fittest legs in town, but that doesn’t stop me from going bare legged with confidence. The key to having that confidence? Doing your best to get your legs looking their best. But don’t fret, it’s really not more than four easy steps to get your legs on fleek.
1. There’s a new AVEENO® product called AVEENO® Daily Moisturizing Vanilla & Oats Yogurt Body Wash that helps to wake up tired and dull winter skin for a moisturizing experience.
2. Skintimate® Skin Therapy® Ultra Sensitive shave gel is the secret to flawless legs. Use this shave gel to form a rich lather and shave with the confidence that you won’t miss a spot!
3. Get your legs silky smooth using a great razor like the Schick Hydro Silk® or Schick Hydro Silk® TrimStyle® to help you take care of any strays, no matter how short your hem is or how much leg you’re showing. They’ve updated the formula so now the experience goes beyond a clean, close shave to actually care for your skin and moisturizes for up to 2 hours after shaving!
4. You want your legs moisturized with help from the AVEENO® Daily Moisturizing Sheer Hydration Lotion that leaves your skin super hydrated from head to toe. You can pick all of these up at your local Shopper’s Drug Mart or Pharmaprix stores. For more information on some of the new Schick® products that are new and hot this season, visit my post HERE.
Stand Out Shades
Sunglasses might be my favourite accessory to wear at any time of year, but I always love that spring feels like a time when you can get wilder with your eyewear choices, don’t you think? To me the cat eye shade is the most classic style you can wear, and it will always be in fashion. Right now I’m loving sporty versions of these retro glasses, which I think bring a fun twist to any outfit. Don’t think you can rock the cat eye? No problem, just find the shape that works for you that you feel best wearing!
Statement Wallet on Chain
Many of my fashion friends have praised the wallet on chain for years. In case you’re not familiar with the Wallet on Chain, it’s a style of purse that is, well, essentially a wallet that’s attached to a long chain that goes around your body. I recently picked up a beauty hot pink version that I’m totally obsessed with, so don’t be surprised if you see me rocking it with every outfit all season long.
Happy Spring-Summer, Everyone!
