7 Beauty Products to Channel Moon Goddess Vibes for The New Year

By Kait Fowlie

The moon has inspired humans for eons, in all areas of life – from art to food to literature. In the digital age, our fascination with it hasn’t dulled, it’s just been amplified. Many peeps believe the moon to be powerful beyond just it’s allure, and if you weren’t drawn to the idea of harnessing its vibes before, then a moon-themed beauty item coming into your orbit may well start you into a magical new world. (New year, new you?)

But whether or not you feel any type of way about the big reflector in the sky, cosmic-themed beauty is in the spotlight like never before, and some of the biggest brands are on board. Curious? Same. I personally tend to veer on the side of sticking to my tried and true items (shout-out to the Virgo moons out there) but, honestly: I vibe this new crop of moon-inspired products. If only for the fact that it just looks… really fun to work with, tbh. And that’s what makeup is about, right?

Here are 7 products to get your hands on if you want to channel the beauty of the night sky with your New Year lewk!

Sephora Moon Phases Palette Collection

This Sephora Moon Phases Palette Collection ($15.00) is the gateway item I needed to actually foray into the world of contouring tutorials on Youtube (never did I ever think I would venture – but v. glad I did). It contains 9 shades: 6 half-moons of matte and pearl-y hued blush, and 3 full moon highlighters. I must confess: I found the amount of variety slightly overwhelming at first, but someone who’s a dominatrix with a blush brush would probably feel right at home with it. The powders are more luminous than glittery, which is nice and subtle for a weekday, but there’s enough variety in here to amp up the drama if you like.

Anastasia Beverly Hills Moonchild Glow Kit

Ice queen VIBES are a classic holiday look, and this Anastasia Beverly Hills Moonchild Glow Kit ($52.00) has all the necessary metallic-y colours to create one – icy blue, a shimmery blue, two shades of mint, a cool lavender, and pearly pink.If you’re into pastels, this selection is great for making a big statement (pair with a bold colour liner like blue or pink!)

OPI Butterfly Me to the Moon Nail Polish

Entering a new year with great nails is a MUST. When you can’t carve out the time or the cash to splurge on a mani, OPI is your best bet. This OPI Butterfly Me to the Moon Nail Polish ($10.50) is iridescent and perf for that pic of you popping a bottle of bub New Year’s Eve. Use as a top coat on a solid blue or green or just by itself.

MILK Makeup Holographic Stick in Stardust

A highlighter stick is essentially a secret weapon, I recently learned. For one thing, they instantly enhance photogenic-ness, and for another, they can make you glow like you live off a diet of superfoods. This Holographic Stick in Stardust ($18.00) by Canadian brand MILK doubles as a blush and highlighter. Apply to the high points of your face, like the apples of your cheeks, brow bone, and middle of your eyelids, and boost your natural radiance (or just make it look like you didn’t consume a carton of eggnog the night before).

STELLAR Orion Cosmic Face Lustre Trio

This STELLAR Orion Cosmic Face Lustre Trio ($30.00) limited edition trio of loose, shimmery-sheer powders are promised to be ‘like a soft-focus filter in a jar.’ Which – I mean, YES. You get two original best-sellers, Aurora and Twilight, and a new limited-edition shade, Celeste (think: rose gold). Dust all over your face and bod for an airbrushed, glow-y effect.

Nudestix Lucky Lunar Kit

Nudestix – if you don’t know, now you KNOW. This Canadian brand makes cult-followed makeup crayons that have helped many transform the appearance of their skin. Their Lucky Lunar Kit ($28.00), inspired by the Chinese New Year, is a collab with Canadian artist Jessica Gorlicky, and it’s basically a complete NYE look in a bit. You get their best-selling creamy nude lip and mystic cheek pencil, and their classic matte red and stiletto lip.

Graydon Skincare Fullmoon Serum

Not a makeup item, but I cannot wait to try this new Fullmoon Serum ($87.00) that Graydon Skincare just dropped. It’s full of essentially all the antioxidants you need to keep your skin looking and feeling RIGHT this winter – botanical collagen, vitamin C, hyaluronic acid, peptides and retinol. So, all the things you want and none of the stuff you don’t. This brand is always vegan, and organic and Canadian, wherever possible. For your holiday karma points.

Happy New Year!
