NYC-based married couple, Jocelyn Young Drew and Alaina Young Drew know what it’s like to blow your salary on fancy candles all too well, which is what “ignited” their desire to launch their very own affordable luxury candle line called Bijou Candles. In our recent #FounderFiles feature, the ladies behind the brand shared with us what it’s been like to create and nurture their “moon child” (aka join business venture) that recently underwent a major branding makeover.

Ever since getting to know them better through our Q&A, we’ve become more than a little obsessed with these two boss babes who keep their love alive while making some of the dopest candles in town.

We wanted to know moe about these New Yorkers love to hang out in their city so we asked them for their guide to NYC. See below for where the founders of Bijou like to eat, drink and shop in New York City:

Where To Eat

For Breakfast: Freemans brunch on the LES. This place has the coziest ambience down its eponymously named private alleyway. Inside has an old colonial tavern vibe. Usually lots of mimosas and the artichoke dip are on our table.

For Lunch: Maison Harlem on West 127th and St Nicholas Ave. This place is definitely our “local.” It’s open from early until late, so you can catch us here anytime, but it’s great for a midday working lunch. Classic French dishes and great wine!

For Dinner: Max Soha in Morningside Heights — perfectly portioned homemade pasta dishes. This place has been here for years and is a true staple. Their pasta is always perfectly al dente.

Where To Drink

The Bar: The Honeywell! Kitschy-cool spot in Hamilton Heights that looks like your Mom’s wood paneled basement in the 70s. Incredible mixology plus yummy bites to eat.

The Party: We’re not huge clubbin’ people so we usually stick to bars, but on nights when things get a little crazier, we might end up at Suite. It’s a total dive, but they have drag shows and impromptu dance parties.

Where to Shop:

(Another Man’s Treasure)

Honestly, we do most of our shopping online so if we do shop in stores, it’s usually for vintage or unique pieces. Some faves are Mr. Throwback (East Village) which has great vintage, Love Adorned (Nolita) — really cool jewelry and home decor — and Another Man’s Treasure (Jersey City), which has the BEST vintage selection.

Where to… find the best happy hour!

We are always looking for the best happy hours. It’s the New York City version of an early bird special. We love FUMO in Hamilton Heights. Discounted drinks and $3 Italian sliders… Yum!
