Whether you consider yourself to be an entrepreneur, your own #GirlBoss or just really damn good at your job, it’s no secret that being a career-focused Alpha-Female can come with its challenges in the romance department. Mainly this has to do with knowing when to shut off from work, and focus on personal time with the people you love. That elusive “Work/Life Balance” is a conversation that regularly occurs among women, and it’s a subject that’s often discussed in our #FounderFiles series. If you’re anything like us, when we do finally remember to make time for a date night, all we really want to do is stay at home after a week of being run ragged and attending numerous work events. But of course, once date night has been set (even if it is at home) you can bet we cram organizing it into an already packed schedule and to-do list.
If you can relate, or are looking for efficient ways to plan a date night at home (because you’re busy AF) we hope this post will help avoid those dreaded prolonged decision-making moments come date night. Inspired by ideas from the recent Ristorante Cioccolato Pop-Up in Toronto, here are some of our top tips on how to create your own romantic date night at home (and fast):
Order Flowers On-Demand
Some may wait for the surprise flowers they’re hoping for to show up at their doorstep (or in the hands of their lover), others know to just order the ones they want on their own terms. If getting to the florist is a task you don’t have time for (or don’t particularly find joy in) make things easier by using an on-demand flower delivery service (such as Tonic Blooms in Toronto) to get flowers to your door, even when it’s last minute.
Make The Cocktails Easy
If craft cocktails are your jam but neither of you are particularly skilled in the bartending department, don’t blow your paycheque on every liquor under the sun, especially if you don’t know what you’re doing. Instead, opt for easy adult beverage options like a fine wine, great champagne, or even a high-quality cocktail mix to sip on something satisfying without breaking a sweat.
Pick Up An Unexpected Dessert
If there’s ever a time to indulge in a decadent dessert, it’s most definitely date night. We recommend something that’s all about chocolate for its aphrodisiac qualities and delicious taste. You can even turn things up a notch by opting for something new and unexpected that will make the night all the more fun. Dr. Oetker just launched their Ristorante Cioccolato Pizza (aka chocolate pizza) that comes frozen but is meant to be heated in the oven so you can enjoy slices of this indulgent ooey gooey delicious dessert (that tastes like a pizza-shaped chocolate croissant!) within minutes.
Bonus tip: Dr. Oetker’s Ristorante Cioccolato Pizza can be found in the frozen pizza section of most major grocery stores, and, depending on where you shop, you may also be able to grab a bottle of wine or a few beers while you’re there!
Determine Entertainment Beforehand
A lover’s quarrel over who gets to pick the music or who takes control of the remote is no one’s idea of a good time, especially on date night, so do what you can to make those decisions beforehand. Buy a new album you’ve both been wanting to listen to, or rent a new release that you missed in theatres but had been meaning to see.
Treat Yourself To Takeout
Even if you’re into cooking at home as much as we are, it’s always nice to take a well-deserved break from the kitchen. Treat yourself to takeout or pick up something gourmet and pre-made at the grocery store while you stop in to pick up your chocolate pizza (duh) and bottle of wine (or two). Use the time you’ll be saving by not having to stand over the stove to slow down and connect IRL without the distractions.
Wear Something Sexy But Comfy
One great thing about date night at home is that you don’t have to worry about getting dolled up for a night out, or enduring more time in high heels than you want to after a long week. You can still look sexy while also being comfy when you throw on a silk robe, a slip, or your favourite pair of “fancy” PJs that show a little extra skin.
Go For a Minimal Makeup Look
So maybe date night on your couch isn’t the best time to bust out a face mask, but, you can still enjoy feeling refreshed with a minimal makeup look after cleansing and hydrating your face after a long day at the office. We like wearing a great pair of jewellery (think statement earrings, necklace or ring) to add a bit of glamour to a relaxed look at home.
