How To Host An Epic Viewing Party for Nashville Season 5

By Gracie Carroll

A snap from my trip to Nashville in the fall of 2015!

Unless we have met in person, you likely don’t know that I am a HUGE fan of the show Nashville. Seriously, I am OBSESSED. I mention the relevance of meeting in person, and knowing this about me, because if we have ever come into contact IRL there’s a 99% chance that I would have asked you if you watch the show within the first 90 seconds of our conversation.

I love this show so much that I have got all of my girlfriends hooked on it too. Since my entire crew now loves the show as much as I do, I decided to host a viewing party this Thursday night so we could all enjoy the 2-hour season premier of Nashville Season 5 together in one place.

ICYMI, this ain’t your average season premier because this here show got CANCELLED and then brought back to life! I’m not religious but I thank the universe every day for its return, and CANNOT wait to tune in on January 5th 2016 at 9pm EST to watch on the W Network (in Canada). Obvi it is already in my calendar but I’ve added that info in here so you can add it to yours too.

Since I’m hosting my friends on Thursday night, this got me thinking: What would make an epic viewing party for Nashville Season 5? Here’s what I came up with:

Wear All The Sparkle

There’s no doubt about it, the Queens of country LOVE sparkle! Why not use a viewing party as an excuse to relive NYE and put on your best flashy ensemble? If a tight, gold, sparkly dress isn’t your bag, pull a Rayna James by going for a black sparkly top paired with a skin tight pair of denim or leather pants worn with stiletto heels.

Bust Out Your Best Boots

If teeter-totter-ing around your home in sky high heels doesn’t sound all that fun, I don’t blame you. Thankfully, you’ve got options for footwear! One thing I’ve noticed throughout all existing seasons of this show is that all the girls and women of Nashville loves BOOTS. Boots with jeans, boots with skirts, boots with dresses – they’ll wear boots with anything and everything! And not just cowboy boots either (although they do love boots), Frye boots, short boots, tall boots…just grab any leather boots and put them on.

Get Country Curls

Another thing I’ve noticed about those Nashville leading ladies is that they all swear by curls in their hair. Seriously, I don’t think I’ve seen any of the characters on the show ever wear their hair straight, or up. It’s always ‘bigger the better’ and curly, curly, curly! One quick google of ‘Scarlett Nashville Hair’ and you’ll see what I mean, especially because that search comes up right away.

Serve Bourbon

True to Nashville-style, the characters in Nashville can often be found sipping on bourbon whether it’s during an intimate song writing session, or a wild night out. If sipping bourbon neat or on the rocks is too much for you, my recommendation would be to serve Bourbon Lemonade which is quite simply bourbon mixed with lemonade and it goes down real easy!

Play The Soundtrack on Repeat

Between getting ready and mixing drinks you’re definitely going to need the right music to get you in the mood! I listen to the Nashville soundtrack (just search it on YouTubes) all the time when I’m working alone so I’m excited to finally have some friends to dance around with before the new season screening begins.

Assign Characters

NASHVILLE - ABC's "Nashville" stars Chris Carmack as Will Lexington, Clare Bowen as Scarlett O'Connor, Jonathan Jackson as Avery Barkley, Sam Palladio as Gunnar Scott, Maisy Stella as Daphne Conrad, Eric Close as Teddy Conrad, Lennon Stella as Maddie Conrad, Connie Britton as Rayna Jaymes, Charles Esten as Deacon Claybourne and Hayden Panettiere as Juliette Barnes. (ABC/Bob D'Amico)

If you are lucky enough to have men in your life who love Nashville as much as you do (my boyfriend Josh has already made plans to be anywhere but home on Thursday night), I would highly encourage you to assign characters to each of your friends and have everyone watch Nashville season 5 in character. I mean, how fun would that be!? The only hard part will be determining who gets to be who…

Now, there are rarely any scenes in Nashville that involve eating food, but, if you’re interested in making a Nashville-style dish for everyone to enjoy while watching, my recommendation would be ‘Hot Chicken‘ since that’s a true Nashville (the city) classic!

Have fun!!
