You definitely don’t have to ask us twice when it comes to celebrating something as delicious as National Cheesecake Day (taking place on July 30th), but, we’re always up for taking things to another level when it comes to food. If cheesecake is something you love as much as we do, we hope you’ll appreciate the creativity and sensorial delight that comes with each slice of this beautiful (and totally unexpected) Black Sesame Cheesecake from the TORA restaurant here in Toronto. Keep reading for how to make it at home!

Black Sesame Cheesecake from TORA

What You Need:

What To Do: 

To Make the Crust:

  1. Toast black sesame seeds for 30 seconds or until you can smell the toasted sesame.
  2. Pour toasted sesame seeds into a food processor and pulse for 1 minute. The sesame seeds should be well broken down and no big pieces are noticeable.
  3. Pre-heat oven to 325°F
  4. Add in the honey and pulse for another minute. The resulting paste should be thick and creamy.
  5. Mix graham crumbs, sugar and butter, black sesame seeds press crumb mixture onto the bottom of 9-inch springform pan. Bake for 10 min.

To Make the Filling:

  1. Beat cream cheese, sugar, flour and vanilla in a large bowl with mixer until blended. Add sour cream, sesame paste; mix well. Add eggs, 1 at a time, mixing on low speed just until combined. Do not overmix. Pour over crust.
  2. Bake for 1 hr 10 min at 325°F. or until centre is almost set. Run a knife around rim of pan to loosen cake; let cool completely before removing the rim. Refrigerate for 4 hours.
