Up until recently, it’s pretty safe to assume that most of us didn’t associate charcoal with much beyond #BBQSZN. However, over the past few years, we’ve started to hear more about the (very surprising) health and wellness benefits of incorporating charcoal into your diet and beauty routine. If you caught our recent post on 21 of the best detoxifying charcoal beauty products, you’ll already know that the miracle ingredient that is charcoal has been popping up in everything from face masks to toothpaste. I know, it’s hard to believe that a jet black powder could actually whiten your teeth naturally, but somehow it does! Thank you, Mother Nature.
Charcoal as an ingredient has even started to make an appearance in the world of Food & Beverage, and here at Edit Seven we are oh-so into it. Why? The long list of the benefits of charcoal include everything from emergency toxin removal, digestive cleansing and can even help with treating hangovers.
Since we’ve never been afraid of a good party, the appeal of a hangover curing drink is all too real. But instead of spending $15 of our hard earned dollars on pre-made versions from trendy juice shops, we decided to make it ourselves, at home.
Even if you’re not looking for a hangover cure anytime soon, this delicious drink (that tastes just like a regular homemade lemonade!) still offers tons of great benefits for your body and it can add some serious oomph to your daily glass of lemon water.
See below for how to make our DIY Charcoal Lemonade Recipe!
What You Need:
- 1 litre of purified water
- Juice of 2 Meyer lemons (we recommend @sunkistgrowers)Â
- 1 tsp of activated black charcoal
- 2 tbsp maple syrup
- 1/8 tsp of chlorella
What To Do:
- Place all ingredients into a large mason jar or pitcher. Shake to combine (with lid on) if in mason jar or use a wooden spoon or a whisk if in a pitcher.
Serve and Enjoy!
