At a time of year when we’re all racing around to shop for our friends and families, it’s easy to forget about the families who are new to Canada, and experiencing a Canadian winter for the first time.
One year ago, my friends at New Circles opened their doors to accept donations for Syrian refugees who are new to Canada, and for just $50 you also had the option to help provide clothing to an adult for an entire year.
For the holiday season, New Circles has launched their Warm Welcomes online gift catalogue that gives new Canadians a good start. So, whether you have $10 or $100 to donate, see below for what you can purchase from the Warm Welcomes catalogue to help a family in need.
The Comfort Kit, $10
The Comfort Kit helps a newcomer feel a sense of comfort and dignity while starting their new life in Canada by providing basic necessities such as socks, underwear or toiletries. This kit can be purchased for just $10!
Back To School, $25
Back to School helps a youth start the school year off right with quality clothing, plus a backpack full of school supplies. It can be purchased for $25!
Seniors Mobile Mall, $40
I LOVE the Seniors Mobile Mall because it enables two seniors living in a local Toronto Community House residence to have a social shopping experience twice a year. This can be purchased for $40 and you can watch a video HERE to see how the program works.
Prom Boutique, $50
I have been supporting the New Circles Prom Boutique every year since 2012 (WOW time flies!) and I love that you have the opportunity to support their amazing program through Warm Welcomes for $50. The Prom Boutique offers a teen a magical prom experience by outfitting them in a dress or suit, plus footwear and accessories, through their annual initiative.
Winter Warmth, $100
Winter Warmth helps a family get comfortably through Toronto’s coldest months by providing them with winter clothing, such as coats, hats, gloves, scarves or footwear through GLOW. You can help provide warmth to a family in need for just $100!
I know firsthand just how stressful the holidays can be financially, and I believe it’s important to remember that even sparing just $10 can really make a big difference. Or, please consider donating on behalf of your friends and family in lieu of purchasing material gifts this year.
Their donation centre is still in great need of winter clothing for everyone from babies to adults so if you have any spare clothing available please donate what you can.
