The holiday season is that wonderful time of year when everyone’s social calendar fills up with non-stop parties and events that often run well into the new year. I know what this life is like all too well, especially since my job often involves keeping up with a holiday-like events schedule all year long.
After years of attending multiple events on multiple days of every week, I’ve come to rely on a few tips and tricks to help me get party-ready in a serious pinch, like, under 15 minutes. Why? How? Because, honestly, I just do not have time to spend hours getting ready every day, while still managing to do everything I do.
As a #SchickAmbassador, today I’m revealing some of the key things I rely on to help me keep up with adulating during the holidays a.k.a. trying to look as glam as possible in the shortest amount of time. If you’re dealing with a packed schedule, especially during the merry madness of this season, I hope some of these tips will help you balance the primping between the work and the parties!
Here are the key things I rely on to help me keep up:
Book a Blowout, or Two.
People often ask me if I get a blowout every day, or if I do my own hair. Girl, hell nah. A. I don’t have time to go to the salon every day (although I wish I did), and B. I literally have zero skills in the do-your-own-hair department. What I do is get a blowout once a week (maybe twice if the party shedule is particularly packed), and make that thing last for as long as humanely possible. Honestly, I’m basically just a head full of dry shampoo and hairspray by the time the week ends.
To make sure my hair is on point for the right events, I look at my schedule in advance and book an appointment before it all kicks off. If I know that from Wednesday to Saturday I’ve got a crap ton of events to attend, I’ll book in for a fresh blowout on a Tuesday night or Wednesday morning. Normally the third day is when the dry shampoo comes out, and by the fourth or fifth day my hair will likely be in some kind of semi or full up-do. There, now you know what it really means when my hair is up.
Get a Mani Pedi That Will Last
As much as I do love getting a fresh mani pedi, I find it a struggle to set aside 2 to 3 hours in a day to sit down and not be able to plow through work as fast as I normally would. Even worse is finally finding that time, only to walk out and soon find a smudge or chip on your nails. Although I do know that shellac isn’t great for your nail health, it’s been such a game changer for my lifestyle. If you’ve got a hectic week, or weeks, coming up for events, find time to get a neutral mani pedi that will go with anything and everything, and will often last for around three weeks. Never having to put on a last minute coat of nail polish before rushing out the door is a truly great feeling.
Plan Your Outfits In Advance
While I do enjoy a lazy Sunday as much as anyone else, I do like to use Sundays as my day to plan and prepare for the week ahead. Often this means reviewing my schedule, booking appointments (like workouts, blowouts and manicures) to fit in between meetings, meal prep, and looking through my wardrobe to plan out my outfits.
I find it so helpful to have an idea of what I want to wear to certain events in advance in order to remove any ‘wardrobe woes’ on the day of that could delay how long it takes me to get ready. Not only will I piece things together by holding them up to see how they look, but I’ll often try them on and take pictures so I can flip through my phone as a reminder come game time.
Make Shower Time a Triple Threat
When time is tight, it pays to multi-task, even when you’re in the shower. As I shared in this recent post, I even use a quick shower as an opportunity to sneak in a face mask. Get your body party ready when you’re in the shower by applying a five minute face mask, quickly removing any unwanted hair by using products like the Schick Hydro Silk razor (or Schick QuattroYou razor) with the Skintimates ‘SkinTherapy’ shave cream for a super smooth and super soft shave. If you have sensitive skin like I do, look for the Schick Hydro Silk ‘SensitiveCare’ razor that features a hypoallergenic moisturizing serum that’s dermatologist-tested to help protect sensitive skin against irritation and moisturizes for up to two hours after shaving – perfect for ensuring a perfect shave when you’re in a rush. If you’re also in need of a super quick clean up in the nether regions, try using the super handy Schick Hydro Silk TrimStyle to get those clean lines around even your most intimate parts – I’m obsessed with double duty products and this one is definitely one of my top picks for getting things done, fast.
Once any necessary hair removal has been taken care of, I like using a skin nourishing and super moisturizing lather, or a gentle exfoliant infused with oils to get my skin’s glow on. To save time, try rinsing off with a moisturizing in-shower body lotion to save you time once you dry off.
Keep Your Hair and Makeup Simple
In order to keep up with my schedule of events, and get ready in under 15 minutes when I’m in a rush, I often have to forego fancy hairstyles or heavy makeup. My beauty motto is to always keep things simple, so once my hair is ready with a simple blowout, I rely on a fresh face and a swipe of a great red lipstick before I head out the door.
Put Some Sparkle On It
The only real difference in the party outfits that I put together nearly every day of the year and the ones I put together during holiday party season is that I throw some sparkle on it, seriously. Want to wear that Little Black Dress to the party? No problem. Just put on a great pair of sparkly earrings, a necklace, and/or pair of shoes. Heck, it’s the holidays! This is the one time of year when you can wear as much sparkle as you want and no one will bat an eye. My tip? Pull out all of your best sparkly fashion pieces and accessories and have them ready to grab-and-go so you can put on something classic or rather simple and jazz it up before your Uber driver even has a chance to tell you he’s waiting outside.
Happy Holidays Everyone!
