February means that all things Valentine’s Day have sneakily tiptoed into our lives, but, what if you’re not one of the (as it seems to be) millions of folks who are in the long-term relationship pool? What is a single gal like me to do on a day that celebrates everything that my life currently lacks–the love from a partner and, well, sex. This year, instead of pretending the day doesn’t exist and going about my daily business, I’m planning on spending it by celebrating me and the love I have for myself. Just because I don’t have a partner to spend major $$ on, who says I can’t spend that hard earned dolla’ on myself?
If I’ve learnt anything from 2018, it’s that the most important relationship in my life is between me, myself and I, which is why I put an effort into celebrating ‘moi’ not just on Valentine’s Day but every day. Sometimes it’s a splurge on a luxe facial or other times it’s taking the long way home so I can go past my fave park in the city. Another thing I should note is that self-love doesn’t have to always cost you money – it should be something that makes you feel good, not feeling strapped for cash.
Keep reading for a few ways to gift yourself some self-love this Valentine’s Day and every day after!
Get Your Sweat On
Nothing makes me feel more alive and powerful than when I get in a good sweat session. This could be an intense bootcamp or some flowy yoga class–anything that gets you moving and feeling strong is what I’m talkin’ about. Yes, working out is centered around getting “fit” but it really is so important to take some time out of your busy schedule, and get in some good ol’ fashioned movement. It really is the ultimate in self-love; plus, your abs will thank you later! If you’re into some flow-focused movement, venture over to MISFITSTUDIO for Fusion where you’ll move in ways you never knew you could through dance, yoga and pilates! More into a high-impact sweat? Head to BOLO for their amazing BOLO Boxing class that’ll have you feeling like the ultimate powerhouse. Plus they’re celebrating V-Day the right way with a good old fashioned party complete with an open bar, braid bar, tarot reading and of course, all the snacks!
Get In Some Pampering
Treat yourself to some very important and possibly much-needed self-care this Valentine’s Day. Whether this means slathering on a face mask or shelling out for a relaxing facial (it’s up to you!) but regardless of what you choose to indulge in, it’s important for you to know that you deserve it. You deserve to feel gorgeous and if getting a facial, quick blow out or a mani with fun nail art does that for you, then go for it! I know you’re busy AF so if you’re needing a speedy facial, head to North Medical Spa for their Hydrafacial. Although it might not be the most relaxing facial (it kind of feels like a mini vacuum on your face), after a quick 30 minute process you’ll leave absolutely glowing and feeling majorly hydrated (duh!) which is so important in these dry winter months. Not into a facial? Pop over to Tips Nail Bar for a top quality mani but don’t skimp on the nail art because every time you see look down at your hands, you’ll remember that you deserve the best! More into DIY? You don’t even have to shell out cash if you don’t want to because everything you need for glowing skin can be found in the aisles at your local grocery store!
Treat Yourself To Some Blooms
Even though you may not have a significant other to gift you with a bouquet of flowers this V-Day, it doesn’t mean you have to go without. Local Toronto on-demand florist company, Tonic Blooms is known for their gorgeous bundles that not only arrive on your doorstep on the same day you order but you can also add on little treats like CXBO Chocolates to make your delivery a little extra special. Plus, if you’re not skilled in the flower arranging department, I think splurging for one of their pre-arranged options is the way to go, and you get a stunning vase too!
Get In Some Girl Time
Just because you’re single it doesn’t mean you have to sit at home all alone so grab your fellow single gals and get ready for a night on the town because they don’t call it Galentine’s Day for nothin’, right? I know it would be (much) easier to have a movie night or dinner party at home but going out and dressing up can do amazing things for your spirit and soul. So off you go, get a table at that new resto you’ve been dying to try and just enjoy and have fun! Looking to dine for a deal? Head to Louix Louis at The St. Regis for their prix fixe V-day dining extravaganza that’s as glam as it is delish!
Have Some Self Sexy Time
If you’re living the single life, the odds are you’re probably lacking in the sex department. Well thankfully that doesn’t have to be the case because there are so many stores in TO that’ll help you find your sexy side sans partner. At Good For Her, you’ll find a massive selection of sex toys, books, DVDs and workshops that’ll help you embrace your sensuality and sexuality whether you’re in a LTR or not! Click HERE for our interview with Good For Her founder, Carlyle Jansen!
Have Some Quiet Time
Needing some alone time and stillness in the midst of all the craziness and bustle of life? Yeah, I don’t blame you. Even when relaxing and watching TV at home, our minds are still running and though you might be cozy on the couch, your brain is still going a thousand miles/minute and trust me, it’s in need of a break too. Get in some zen at a meditation studio like Hoame and check out their salt cave that not only works to relax and de-stress you but also improves circulation and skin purification. Looking for a different way to meditate? Why not try floating at Float? After an hour-long floating sesh in one of their tanks (that are filled with 900 pounds of Epsom Salts) you’ll feel de-stressed and totally relaxed!
Remember, You’re Not Alone
I think it’s important to note that you’re not the only single person out there. If you’re happy being single then live it up but if you’re looking for some real romance, fire up those dating apps! In search of new friends or a workout buddy, hop on Bumble BFF and strike up a convo but regardless of what you’re searching for, you have to make an effort because you can’t meet people if you don’t put yourself out there, right? Plus, you never know, real romance (or a new fling!) might be just around the corner!
