Weekend Musts: Freakebana, DIOR in Toronto, Rolling Stone + More

By Gracie Carroll

We’re obsessed with the new ‘Freakabana’ floral trend

Hello friends, welcome to the first of a new weekly Saturday feature called ‘Weekend Musts’ that’s dedicated to spotlighting some of our favourite discoveries of the week that might inspire what you do, see, shop, make, eat (and more!) over your weekend. Keep reading to see what made the cut for this week’s Weekend Musts:

What To Read:

The read that tops our list this weekend is The Cut’s article on Freakebana: The New, Ugly-Cool Style of Arranging Flowers. Don’t get us wrong, we like peonies just as much as the next bunch of gals on the gram, but, we’re also ready for some freaky ass flowers in our life to evoke some real #inspo. Got a spare butternut squash and a drill lying around? Why not take your weekend reading into craft mode after devouring this article? Trust us, you’ll want to.

An incredible perfume bottle displayed at the Dior exhibit at the ROM.

What To Do:

The highly anticipated Christian Dior Exhibit has officially opened in Toronto at the Royal Ontario Museum and we had the chance to get a preview before the official opening thanks to our friends at Holman Exhibits. If you love fashion and ogling priceless haute couture, don’t miss your chance to look at some of Dior’s most influential pieces up close and personal. Our tip? Take the time to read the stories from the Toronto socialites who owned many of the pieces on display.

What To Watch:

If you haven’t seen it already, find yourself access to HBO and plop yourself down to indulge in 4 eye-widening hours of the Rolling Stone documentary, Rolling Stone: Stories from The Edge. Any fans of Almost Famous (and rock ‘n’ roll, obviously) will revel in the real-life tales of those portrayed in the legendary film. Our favourite part? Watching a live performance of Tina Turner covering ‘Come Together’ by the Beatles.

What To Hear:

Good friends like to share with each other, especially when it comes to what they’re listening to. This week’s musical selection comes straight from a friendly recommendation, and we’re passing on the good deed by sharing it with all of you. If you don’t already have it on rotation, add ‘Love Can Be‘ by Vince Staples to your playlist now.

What To Eat:

We get to eat a lot of delicious foods throughout most weeks, but the star dish of the past week was undoubtedly the crudo at Brothers (located on Bay just north of Bloor). If you’ve not been to this little gem of a spot yet, make it your new weekend plan immediately. Tip: order the crudo paired with a glass of their rose bubbly. They’ll know the one.

What To Make:

Serious question: is there anything better than a great one-pan dish? We don’t think so, especially if you happen to be a busy person (which you probably are). #TeamGC Assistant Editor, Blair, has been raving about this super tasty (and easy) One-Skillet Chicken with Buttery Orzo dish from Bon Appetit ever since she made it and this weekend is the weekend to make it, friends.

What To Shop:

The Black Friday shopping madness has taken over (even here in Canada) and will be carrying on strong straight through ’til Monday. Whether you truly  need things or not, there’s always more room for fine jewellery, in our opinion. If you’re out and about in Toronto, our top shopping pick is to stop by Gilding The Lily in the Distillery District to take advantage of their No Tax Sale that’s on until Sunday. Bonus: The Christmas Market is on now at the Distillery so if you’ve been meaning to visit you can make both happen with one trip.

Ps. For more Black Friday shopping deals from some of our favourite local brands click HERE.

Happy Weekend!
