What I Wore: A Lowon Pope Bias Cut Wedding Dress to Celebrate The End of An Era

By Gracie Carroll

Don’t let this post give you any ideas; I am not engaged or getting married any time soon. However, I know a lot of you are (including many of my close friends) and I was compelled to pay a visit to Lowon Pope in Liberty Village to play dress up for a few reasons. Firstly because, of course, their bias-cut 1930s and 40s-style dresses are exquisite, and all made in their downtown Toronto studio. Secondly, they are close family friends and I wanted to pay a visit as soon as I heard they are celebrating “an end of an era” as this year comes to an end. Thirdly, well, I just had to tell you all about this once-in-a-lifetime sale that you DO NOT want to miss, whether you’re a bride-to-be or not.

Fun Fact: Working at Lowon Pope at their Queen West location was my very first job when I was a teenager. I (obviously) knew nothing about selling bias-cut wedding dresses at the time, but picked up quickly and was soon selling those dresses like a pro. While it was during that time that I decided having a wedding wasn’t for me, that didn’t stop me from admiring the beauty in the gowns, and the brides. And hey, never say never, right?

Now, after over 20 years in the business, my talented friends Lana Lowon and Jim Pope, have decided to retire (although Lana will hate me for using that word) in the new year and celebrate with an ‘End of An Era’ sale at their Liberty Village boutique. Bride-to-be or not, this is a chance you don’t want to miss to get your hands on one of their gorgeous, Canadian-made dresses before it’s too late. Plus, you’ll likely score a deal on the price too!

Take a look below to see more from Lowon Pope!

Lowon Pope is located in Liberty Village, Toronto at 117 Jefferson Avenue. To make an appointment, please call 416-504-8150.

Congratulations Jim & Lana!

  1. I have to say that I am a very lucky woman to have been able to purchase my wedding dress at Lowon Pope. I was married this past August and I selected an absolutely gorgeous dress. I settled on my dress in January and I met with Lana many times to tweak and re-tweek it until it turned out to be “my dress”. Lana is an artist and is a great visionary when it comes to style. I am so lucky to have worked with her and her wonderful seamstress (her name escapes me…sorry). It’s not your typical bridal dress like the ones you find in most salons these days .i.e. mermaids, or so snug you can’t move or dance. I love my dress and I know that I will wear it again some day after a few minor alterations. Who can say that about their wedding dress?

Thanks Lana. You are the best and best of luck.
