A Homemade Power Balls Recipe (That Doesn’t Involve a Food Processor)

By Gracie Carroll

If you’ve been to your local coffee shop or favourite smoothie bar in the past couple of years, there’s a good chance you have come across (and fallen in love with) super food-packed power balls as a healthy sweet treat. While I am no stranger to making a power balls recipe at home (they’re actually super easy to make) I often avoid it because I don’t want to go through with busting out the food processor and dealing with the dishes after the mixture has been processed.

This weekend, while flipping through my copy of Xochi Balfour’s wellness-focused book, The Naturalista, I was quickly drawn to her homemade Power Balls Recipe, especially because it didn’t involve using a food processor at all. Here Xochi’s use of ground almonds makes the entire process that much faster and easier (with a helluva lot less clean up – yay!) and the end result certainly did not dissappoint.

I took Xochi’s recipe one step further by rolling these power balls in hemp hearts, crushed pistachios and shredded coconut at the end (reminiscent of my Vegan Chocolate Truffles recipe) but, either way, these are a super delicious way to make power balls in a pinch and I felt the recipe must be shared! Keep reading for how to make them:

Homemade Power Balls Recipe with Cacao

What You Need:

For The Base

For The Cacao Superfood Blend

What To Do:

Place the base ingredients in a large mixing bowl and add the ingredients that follow for the ‘cacao superfood blend’. Mix well and then roll into bite-sized balls and place on a plate or small pan. Either dust the balls with more cacao, or roll them in a blend of your choice (for example, shredded coconut, crushed pistachios and hemp hearts like I used), and chill in them in the fridge for 20-30 minutes before eating.

Enjoy!
