Whether you’re a fan of doing laundry or not (personally, I’m not a huge fan), I think it would be hard to find someone who doesn’t love fresh and clean laundry that smells great too. As an avid fitness freak, my laundry pile of sweaty, dirty workout gear piles high every week, and very quickly at that. I can share from experience that putting on a freshly cleaned workout outfit only to notice that it still smells like sweat is absolutely not the way you want to start your workout or your day.

Because this kept happening to me, I had to stop blaming my boyfriend (the laundry master of our house) and start looking into tips and tricks that would help get my super sweaty, super smelly gear super fresh and super clean.

Today I’m sharing the tips and tricks that have been working for me. They’re easy, effective and (bonus!) don’t involve investing in any heavy-duty machinery to get the results you’re likely looking for too.

Keep reading for 7 tips for how to wash your workout clothes to keep them super fresh!

Use The Right Detergent

Using the right detergent is a major key for getting odours out of specialty garments like workout gear. I’ve been using the new Arm & Hammer Plus OxiClean with Odour Blasters because even though its gentle on your clothes, it’s been specially formulated to attack and eliminate tough odours for fresh laundry after every wash.

Turn Your Gear Inside Out

Have you been diligent about making sure your workout clothes aren’t inside out before you toss them into the wash? Stop right now! It’s actually best to turn your gear inside out before dumping it in the wash and let your washer do all the hard work. Why? This allows the insides to get a deep clean because, let’s face it, that’s where all the sweat and dirt really builds up.

Wash ‘Em As Soon As You Can

If you’re into intense workout that get you extra sweaty, don’t sleep on getting your clothes into the wash. I can totally relate to being zonked after a tough class, but make sure to wash your super sweaty threads ASAP because that’s when the stench can get stuck to your clothing’s fibres. Thankfully, even if you do forget about your smelly sweats, Arm & Hammer Plus OxiClean Odour Blasters Laundry Detergent is specially formulated to attack and eliminate the toughest odours on contact to blast them away.

Don’t Wash With Clothing That Might Catch

Make sure that you wash your activewear with zipper-free garments or anything that could catch and rip or pull on the fabric. There’s nothing worse than a hole in an unforgiving place in your fave leggings, especially if you’ve paid a pretty penny for them!

Check The Labels For Instructions

Before you start, check the label for how best to wash your gear. Is hot water best? Or is cold better? Hot water might seem like a great way to kill off bacteria but could be harmful to some athletic garments. It all depends on the piece, so it’s always better to be safe than sorry, especially if it’s gear that you love.

Use A Lingerie Bag for Sports Bras

Just like when washing your lingerie, taking care of delicates can apply to sports bras too. Especially if you’ve purchased ones with moulded cups or extra support. If you want them to keep their shape, wash by hand or pick up a lingerie bag to wash your activewear intimates with peace of mind and prolong their lifespan.

Don’t Add Fabric Softener

We know getting that fresh and clean smell is extra tempting when dealing with workout clothes but fabric softener damages anything that stretches and also leaves behind a coating that will trap smells and become difficult to clean away! Once again, this problem can be solved by using a detergent that’s been specially formulated to deal with eliminating sweaty odours Arm & Hammer Plus OxiClean Odour Blasters Laundry Detergent.
